Senior Data and Evaluation Specialist

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. (MAEC) was founded in 1991, as an education non-profit dedicated to increasing access to equitable educational opportunities so all students can learn and achieve at high levels. Its mission is to promote excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice.
MAEC collaborates with the U.S. Department of Education, the Offices for Civil Rights, the Department of Justice, state departments of education, districts, and schools to ensure that students are treated equitably and are given access to a rigorous curriculum regardless of race, gender, national origin (English Learners), sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or religious beliefs. MAEC provides technical assistance and professional learning for state department personnel, administrators, principals, teachers, and families on culturally responsive pedagogy, violence and harassment prevention, prejudice reduction, family engagement, culturally proficient teacher training, compliance with educational laws and regulations, and other issues related to school improvement.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Data & Evaluation Senior Specialist at MAEC works under the direction of the Director of Evaluation and Continuous Improvement to conduct project evaluations as well as offer external consultation on data systems. The Specialist works closely with the evaluation team to coordinate conceptual evaluation practices with technical data architecture, and interfaces with clients including schools, local education agencies, and state education agencies to discuss data collections, analyses, and findings when appropriate.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record using a mixed methods approach in evaluation projects that center the voices of minoritized populations and strive to promote social justice. They will lead the execution of evaluation team projects while expanding the organization’s evaluation portfolio. They will contribute to the collective learning of the evaluation team and effectively leverage data to enact systems-level change.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Collection and Analysis
  • Lead data analysis of key problem areas on root cause analyses, needs assessments, equity audits, and other evaluation project related activities.
  • Design and lead data collection activities including key informant interviews, focus groups, and surveys.
  • Lead and develop interim deliverables and final reports synthesizing findings from various data collections for external audiences.
  • Design and lead analyses of quantitative data using statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R) and qualitative data using qualitative data software (e.g., MAXQDA).
  • Create data visualizations using data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Conceptualize data collection protocols and instrument development while ensuring data quality.
  • Supervise evaluation staff on tasks related to data collection, data analysis, development of deliverables, and literature reviews.
  • Assist the Director of Evaluation and Continuous Improvement with the development and implementation of MAEC’s evaluations and reporting procedures.
Project Management 
  • Represent MAEC at stakeholder meetings to discuss the status of project deliverables and navigate client expectations.
  • Manage the workflow of evaluation projects by creating timelines of project stages, allocating tasks to evaluation staff, and collaborating with technical assistance providers at MAEC as well as external consultants.
  • Provide mentorship and expertise to evaluation staff on project tasks and assignments.
  • Conduct private and public presentations to clients and other relevant audiences on the status of evaluation projects and findings.
  • Coordinate evaluation staff and technical assistance providers at MAEC to write grant/contract proposals for submission to school districts, the federal government, and other entities.
Facilitation of Data Trainings and Reporting
  • Design and create training materials about best data and evaluation practices for both in-person and online formats.
  • Lead the evaluation of trainings and technical assistance projects conducted by MAEC to evaluate impact.
  • Assess MAEC internal training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, or consultations with managers.
  • Author and prepare data reports, training materials, business presentations, publications, marketing collaterals, and other educational materials.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 5 years of experience working with data and evaluating programs. Equity, compliance, civil rights, or elementary/secondary education-related experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and lead diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of current K-12 education issues, especially as related to civil rights, equity, access, and opportunity.
  • Strong computer and technology skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, SPSS, MAXQDA, Tableau, QuickBase, or similar programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time, and manage implementation plans in fast-moving, changeable environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to MAEC’s guiding principles.
  • Master’s degree with coursework applying research methods in the areas of education, public health, social policy, or other related fields and 5 years of experience, PhD preferred. Substantive experience in research or evaluation can serve in lieu of relevant coursework.

  • Flexible schedule, including willingness to travel.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation will be commensurate with experience. MAEC offers a competitive benefits package including health, vision, dental insurance, and a 403(b) retirement program.
This can be a remote or hybrid position. If you live in the DC, Maryland, or Virginia area this position may be hybrid depending on your location.
Classification: Administrative and professional Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) exempt employee
