SUMMARY: Edit analyses of pending legislation for the Daily Floor Report produced for House members. Edit and sometimes write in-depth reports on state policy issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Edit analyses of pending legislation during legislative sessions.
  • Edit and help write reports on complex state policy issues.
  • Ensure accuracy, readability, and impartiality in HRO publications.
  • Design and produce publications using applicable technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Individuals with substantial editing experience and with backgrounds in journalism, publishing, law, public policy and related fields are encouraged to apply. Legislative or public policy experience is preferred but not required. Experience editing complex material for a general audience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Advanced skills in copyediting, fact-checking, and proofreading are required. Applicants should have superior editing, writing, and critical analysis skills, as well as mature editorial judgment and demonstrated ability to work quickly and thoroughly under deadline pressure. Publication design skills or a willingness and ability to learn them are required. The position requires a commitment to impartial analysis of controversial issues and meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy. Candidates should be prepared during legislative sessions to work considerable extended hours and weekends, when needed, and have the capacity to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

GENERAL SALARY INFORMATION:
SALARY RANGE: $4,300.00 Monthly (Salary will be determined by experience and qualifications) OPENING DATE: November 1, 2022
