Legislative Analyst

SUMMARY: Gather information and write about pending legislation for the Daily Floor Report produced for House members during legislative sessions and research and write in-depth reports on state issues during the interim.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Research, analyze, and write about pending legislation.
  • Write in-depth reports on complex state policy issues.
  • Follow assigned policy areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Individuals with backgrounds or degrees in writing, law, public policy, journalism, government, finance and related fields are encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Advanced skills in writing for a general audience and in critical analysis are required. Candidates should have experience or demonstrable interest in state issues and the legislative process. The position requires the ability to assemble information rapidly under deadline pressure, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to factual accuracy, objectivity, and impartial analysis. Candidates should be prepared during legislative sessions to work considerable extended hours and some weekends, when needed, and should be able to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

GENERAL SALARY INFORMATION:
SALARY RANGE: $3,900 Monthly (Salary will be determined by experience and qualifications)
