Human Resources Director – Town of La Plata, Maryland

The Town of La Plata, Maryland (est. pop. 10k) is located in Charles County just 30 miles from Washington, D.C. and 60 miles from Baltimore. Although rural in ambiance, the County is the largest municipality in Southern Maryland and among the fastest growing in the country.

La Plata is seeking a Human Resources Director (HRD), which is a newly created position within the Town. The HRD will plan, administer, and maintain ongoing human resource activities to include safety and risk management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, performance management, recruiting and hiring, training, legal compliance, record keeping and related functions. The new HRD will have the exciting opportunity to establish a performance management system, evaluate existing software systems, and work collaboratively with Town leadership to explore and create opportunities for employees while maintaining responsiveness with residents’ expectations. This position will report to the Town Manager.

The starting salary range for this position will be $109,160 to $125,535. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, human resources management, or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressive human resources experience with at least one year of supervisory experience. Professional Human Resources certification (SHRM, PHR or SPHR, IPMA) is desired.
