Media Director

SUMMARY
The Media Director provides supervision and oversight of Media Team operations at Camp Orkila on beautiful Orcas Island, WA. Previous experience with video and photo equipment is required and a strong interest in photography and/or videography is encouraged. The Media Program Director is supervised by the Senior Program Director and perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $85.00/day

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervises and assists with specific camper supervision. Ensures that all campers are accounting for and safe at all times
2. Develops lesson plans, teaches, and facilitates arts and crafts, marine and earth sciences programs.
3. Facilitates program activities that are developmentally appropriate and which promote camper skill and character development, e.g. cabin activities, values sessions. Leads and assists with facilitation of all-camp special events.
4. Provides leadership and supervision to any developing leaders placed with the cabin: OSIs, CIT's and/or LDI's.
5. Maintains safety and cleanliness standards. Takes special note of individual camper health needs or concerns on a daily basis. Shares cleaning duties with fellow staff.
6. Communicates personal or camper needs to Unit Director in a timely manner.
7. Maintains equipment in sound and safe order.
8. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
9. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
10. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates at a seasonal residential camp, both inside and outdoors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift store or janitorial products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
 
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. The usual camp workweek is six day on and one day off, including training, staff meetings, and regular duties.

TRAVEL
This position is required to live onsite at camp.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. 19 years of age or older
2. Ability to build positive relationships with campers and staff.
3. Promote and maintain a safe and positive environment for campers.
4. Demonstrate leadership skills. Must be able to work independently, exercise good judgment and demonstrate organizational skills.
5. Provide enthusiasm, creativity, resourcefulness and good problem-solving skills.
6. Possess outdoor living and adventure skills.
7. Oversee and implement a variety of program activities.
8. Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse camper and staff population.
9. Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping, swimming, etc

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Current state approved first aid certification*
• Current state approved CPR certification*
• High school graduate or equivalent
• One or more years of college preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to preform effectively in the position will be considered
