Summer Internship – Clinical Immuno-oncology research

Location: Gaithersburg, MD
We are currently seeking rising undergraduate senior, master or PhD-level students working towards a degree in cell biology, immunology, or molecular biology for a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023.

Objectives/Goals of the Position:
Dendritic cells (DC) play a central role in regulating adaptive immune responses and stand essential for generating potent anti-tumor CD8+ T-cell immunity via cross-presentation of tumor antigens (TA). Anti-tumoral immune responses depend on the ability of DC to recognize and endocytose apoptotic/necrotic cells, a process termed efferocytosis.
AstraZeneca’s clinical asset AZD7789 enhances human Monocyte Derived (MoDC) efferocytosis of apoptotic tumor cells and cross-presentation of TA to TA-specific CD8+ T-cells. The Student intern will utilize human tumor lines and human monocyte derived dendritic cells to further elucidate the MOA of AZD7789 in DC biology. Utilizing an established protocol and various immune-assays the intern will co-culture human MoDC with human tumor cell lines to determine what are the functional effects of AZD7789 treatment on human MoDC.
