Summer Internship - IT Audits

SUMMER INTERNSHIP (IT AUDITS)
Locations: Boston, Brockton, Chicopee, Marlborough
Posting: 3 month summer internship (12 weeks)
CSA200 -- $20.00 / hr.  
 
The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) offers a unique and exciting opportunity to work in a government environment that is high profile. The OSA is looking for a highly motivated individual who wants gain valuable work experience and training in the area of information technology (IT) auditing and conduct audit work that will have a positive impact of state government operations.  
 
Please note that in response to COVID-19, OSA has developed a hybrid work model. Currently, employees are expected to work 40% of their work week in office, with 60% telecommuting however, this policy is subject to change. Also, as a requirement of employment, all OSA employees are required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test weekly in order to access offices or worksites.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
 
Participate in the conduct of information technology (“IT”) audits of state agencies, departments, programs, and vendors who contract with the Commonwealth. Contribute to efforts that lead to quality audit work and the preparation of IT audit reports in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards. IT auditors perform IT focused audits including, but not limited to, general and application control reviews, system security reviews, and disaster recovery and business continuity reviews. The incumbent in this position will also be tasked with assisting audit staff by providing technical expertise on IT aspects of assigned audits to support data reliability assessments.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work under the direct supervision of an Auditor-in-charge who is at the level of Senior Auditor II or Audit Supervisor.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
•        Conduct research related to your audit as directed by your supervisor.
 
•        Assist in performing audit related testing as directed by your supervisor.
 
•        Assist in the preparation of audit work papers and schedules, which support the work performed during the audit that meet all required department standards.
 
•        Assist in drafting audit findings as directed by your supervisor. 
 
•        Attend meetings and interviews held with department representatives and record results of such meetings as directed by your supervisor.
 
•        Perform other duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess and/or demonstrate the following:
 
•        A student in good academic standing working towards a bachelor’s degree in accounting, information management, operations management, or a related field. Course work in information technology, computer science, data analytics, or a related area a plus.
 
•        Good oral and written communication skills.
 
•        Familiarity working with Microsoft software (Office Suite).
 
•        Good organizational skills and the ability to problem-solve and think critically and creatively. 
 
•        The ability and desire to be a self-starter and follow through with assigned tasks within established timeframes with a minimum amount of supervision.
 
•        Ability to effectively collaborate and develop good working relationships.
 
No work experience is required, although preference may be given to those with relevant experience or demonstrated strengths in the areas of critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Interns will receive training on auditing techniques.
 
We require that all applicants have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and that they maintain a safe driving record.
