Predoctoral Fellow - Behavioral Research

Harvard Business School seeks full-time Predoctoral Fellows for the academic year 2023-2024 to work with faculty members in our Negotiation, Organizations & Markets, and Organizational Behavior units. The Fellows will work with faculty to develop, design, and conduct research projects and contribute to scholarly research product, and may tackle a wide range of tasks related to coding of experiments, statistical analyses, and literature reviews. This position is ideal for candidate with plans for doctoral studies in two years.

The Fellows will report directly to the faculty and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. Ideal candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.

Primary Duties:
  • Manage IRB applications and approvals, datasets, and shared online file systems including all project study materials.
  • Conduct diverse research tasks including preparing datasets for analysis, coding qualitative data, completing literature reviews, and running studies.
  • Facilitate studies by creating and organizing all materials, schedule lab time and participants, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Conduct preliminary data analysis including graphical analysis, summary statistics, examining characteristics of the data.
  • Assist with the preparation of manuscripts for submission to research journals including accurately applying APA guidelines and accommodating journal’s particular submission specifications.
  • In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, develop and manage project timelines and action steps, ensuring deadlines and milestones are met.
  • Implement a wide variety of research tools including Qualtrics, Mechanical Turk, SPSS, R, and others.
  • Balance project requests from multiple faculty members, using strong communication and prioritization skills. Must be able to structure assignments and keep faculty member informed as necessary, using own judgment.
  • Independently manage all timelines and deliverables. Exercise independent decision making with regard to progression of research project and methodologies. 
  • Other duties may be assigned.
 
Basic Qualifications:
BA or BS required. Statistical training including the use of statistical software and familiarity with behavioral research methods and practices is necessary.
 
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
A degree in a behavioral science-related field is preferred.

The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and research skills and must be comfortable working with data. The candidate must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, strong organization and interpersonal skills, and absolute commitment to task completion. He or she must be able to balance multiple tasks and shifting priorities under tight deadlines at an accelerated pace when necessary. It is helpful if the candidate is comfortable with navigating a complex organization, such as Harvard Business School.

Additional Information:
These are full-time term appointments starting July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024, with an expectation of reappointment until June 30, 2025. All Predoctoral Fellow roles at HBS are structured as one-year term appointments, but faculty prefer candidates willing to commit for two years.

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
