Research Associate (Neurophysiology Data Collection)
Berkeley Lab’s Biological Systems & Engineering Division (BSE) and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at UC Berkeley as part of the Bouchard Lab is looking for a Research Associate to perform experimental procedures in neurophysiology data collection.
In this role, you will perform basic data analysis and assist with rat behavior and chronic surgeries. This position will have the specific focus of recording from rat cortex with novel micro-ECoG and laminar polytrodes simultaneously.
What You Will Do:
- Collect neurophysiology data from rat cortex.
- Perform basic data processing.
- Prepare visualizations of data results.
- Assist with rat behavior experiments.
- Assist with chronic surgeries.
What is Required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent knowledge/training) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field, or a field directly related to Neuroscience and a minimum of 1 year of related experience with rodent behavior.
- Experience with acute and chronic surgeries on rodents.
- Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary laboratory environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to accurately document results.
What We Prefer:
- Experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, and Matlab).
