Junior Paralegal (Tax)

The Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP is seeking a Junior Paralegal for Tax who will support multiple attorneys and paralegals and the overall practice on a variety of matters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)
Under the supervision and direction of attorneys, paralegals, managers, and coordinators, junior paralegals assist with aspects of tax related filings and communications relating to those filings.
Junior Paralegals assist paralegals with tax filings, communications and collaborative support including but not limited to the following:
  • Section 83(b) election filings with the IRS
  • Form 8832 with the IRS
  • Form 8875 with the IRS
  • Form 2553 with the IRS
  • Form 1023 with the IRS
  • Form 966 with the IRS
  • Form SS-4 with the IRS to obtain EINs
  • Prepares and distributes communications to the IRS
  • Monitors and handles request from the Firm’s Tax Election Filings email distribution
  • Collaborates with supporting tax election team members
  • Prepares communications with clients and attorneys with respect to tax election filings
  • Obtains information from, and provides information to, clients
  • Obtains information from, and provides information to, attorneys regarding tax filings
  • Compiles documents and distributes for signature
  • Identifies and formulates solutions to problems which may arise
  • Collaborates with various practice groups providing support, as needed
  • Interfaces with IRS or other government agencies
  • Provides direct support to clients (using discretion to handle matters directly or involving an attorney)
  • Handles distribution of original documents
  • Maintains records utilizing DMS and other technologies, as needed

  • Any other functions/duties as assigned by management

Education, Work Experience, Skills: 
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree preferred and a strong interest in corporate law including Tax, Investment Funds, M&A, private equity. Additional qualifications include excellent analytical and organizational abilities, solid communication skills, strong computer abilities, creativity, and initiative. The successful candidate must be able to work independently as well as with a team, have an acute attention to detail and be able to multi-task and prioritize while working in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work overtime is required.
