The role: 
 
Bring your passion for the environment to our team in Region 3 – Southwest Oregon and apply today to be the region environmental coordinator! In this role, you will ensure that goals are met during the project development process, throughout construction activities and maintenance procedures. You will lead a team of environmental specialists in charge of conducting all environmental activities for transportation projects. You will also have the opportunity to represent the region in statewide environmental issues.
 
Depending on the final candidate’s preference, this position will be located in either Roseburg or White City!

A day in the life:
 
  • Ensure the successful delivery of ODOT projects and that deliverables are of high professional standards that meet state and federal environmental laws, regulations and agreements for transportation projects and improvements.
  • Assist in the development of a project’s purpose and need, project alternatives, avoidance and minimization measures and document National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance.
  • Represent the environmental team on multidisciplinary project delivery teams during all phases of project development (scoping, project delivery and construction).
  • Monitor the progress of environmental compliance documents through regular coordination with various environmental disciplines.
  • Regularly communicate the status of environmental permits, surveys, clearances and approvals with project team members and the environmental team.
  • Review design plans and specifications at various milestones to ensure that issues and concerns are addressed as the project moves through project development.
  • Assist maintenance and district staff with project delivery and environmental clearances.
  • Participate in planning studies, review scopes of work and assist in the development of statewide initiatives.
  • Assist with the development of construction specifications and the proper implementation of environmental protections through periodic construction monitoring.
  • Work with local jurisdictions and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project delivery and compliance with NEPA regulations.
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires periodic day and overnight trips throughout the state for meetings and fieldwork.
  • Fieldwork involves walking along narrow highways and bridges, being near heavy traffic and working in inclement weather.

What we need:
Three years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience, one year of which must have included research design and analysis.
 
AND
 
A bachelor's degree an environmental science, a physical science, a natural science, engineering, or a closely-related field.
 
Note: Three additional years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
 
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience conducting environmental analysis or managing environmental components of transportation related projects.
  • Knowledge and application of environmental regulations and the NEPA process.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple jurisdictions to deliver projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating with technical colleagues.
  • Transportation systems experience.
