Health Communication Strategy & Design Specialist

Leadership Opportunity to Advance
              Health Equity in Massachusetts

Position: Health Communication Strategy & Design Specialist
Division of Community Health Planning and Engagement

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health seeks to hire an experienced health communications professional to support the COVID-19 Community Impact Survey (CCIS) and the Division of Community Health Planning and Engagement. The Communication Specialist will implement and coordinate the process of deploying CCIS and disseminating reports and findings to key stakeholders. The Specialist identifies key messages, channels for communicating key messages, and identifies or develops content appropriate for those channels, ensuring cultural relevancy and suitable literacy levels. The Specialist may also supervise other staff (i.e., other communication specialists, fellow or intern) or vendors as part of communications efforts.

The Communications Specialist is part of the Division of Community Health Planning and Engagement and will work jointly with Division and Office of Statistics and Evaluation (OSE) staff both in the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention. The position works to support data communication efforts, specifically related to the COVID-19 Community Impact Survey (CCIS) and underlying systemic and structural barriers that leave some more vulnerable to COVID-19 and other disease.

BCHAP acknowledges the history and persistence of structural racism and its impact on health. We are committed to improving the quality of life for all Commonwealth residents while eliminating the inequities that threaten the lives of communities of color who are disproportionately affected by chronic diseases and their risk factors. The Communications Specialist will actively apply this framework to all aspects of their work and will work with other Division and BCHAP staff to build understanding and capacity to incorporate this framing into programs across the Department.

Our ideal candidate is:
  • passionate about and familiar with the social determinants of health and their measurement;
  • has at least 4 years of experience in administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration; and
  • a deep understanding of strategic planning including developing communication goals, objectives, methods and framing for presentations and reports
