Accounting/Finance Support Intern: Jan - May/June 2023 - accepting applications now!

  • At this time, our office is open in a limited capacity for staff and volunteers only, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This internship will likely follow a hybrid model of mostly remote and some in-person training, continuing mostly remote with a few possible in-person check-in meetings each month as needed. 

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
The Rian Immigrant Center, located in downtown Boston, MA, is seeking a motivated, organized, and enthusiastic intern. The Accounting/Finance Intern's primary responsibility is to provide administrative support to the Director of Finance. Interns should be interested in this professional experience for the opportunity to gain experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, budgeting, month-end closing and auditing.

TIME COMMITMENT
10+ per week, Monday-Friday. Rian Immigrant Center is closed on the weekends.

DATES
January to May/June 2022

COMPENSATION

  • We welcome applications from students who qualify for work study compensation 
  • For those not eligible for work study, we can offer a cost of living monthly reimbursement stipend
  • We are happy to assist with any requirements to qualify an eligible co-op for academic credit or external funding/fellowships 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Enter invoices into QuickBooks by class and process payments on a weekly basis
  • Enter deposits to the shared spreadsheet.
  • Accounts Receivable reconciliation
  • Mailing attentions related to checks, Invoices and statements weekly once.
  • Copies, files and retrieves materials for accounts receivable as needed
  • Scan all the invoices, copy of checks and statements to Finance Director
  • Work with the Director of Finance to close out the month by providing updates to prepaid schedules, monthly payments to vendors, accruals, restricted/unrestricted funds etc.
  • Audit schedules and preparation as needed
  • Internal control including planning, executing, and completing
  • Determine accuracy of information and data
  • Administrative duties as needed, filing, mailing etc.
  • Other duties as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pursuing a degree in accounting/accounting concentration
  • Must have good research, analytical skills and be creative
  • Organization, attention to detail and time management skills
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to work in a flexible, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment
