Boston Community Engagement Contractor

Remote-first position; candidates must live in MA or RI and be able to commute to Boston as needed. 
Design Museum Everywhere is seeking a short-term Community Engagement Contractor responsible for managing the museum’s presence in Boston, planning and executing impactful programming, building strong relationships, and growing our impact. A successful candidate will be multi-talented and entrepreneurial with the ability to influence and motivate others toward achieving the museum’s vision and mission. 
During 2023, the museum will introduce pilot programming that will relaunch physical programming alongside new virtual formats that have been featured during the past two years due to the impact of the pandemic. This position will directly support Design Museum Everywhere’s 2023 launch of pilot hybrid programming as the museum transitions to a new programming format including both virtual and in-person delivery methods as well as hybrid programming that comprises elements of both formats.  
During the pandemic, Design Museum transitioned from in-person programming to remote and virtual formats. Starting in January, the museum will transform these initiatives into a new program model to serve audiences both virtually and in-person in Greater Boston. The Community Engagement Contractor will work with other staff to launch this pilot Boston programming, including relationship building, content, and educational programming. This position reports to the Director of Education and Community Engagement and will interact with staff, community members, and external contributors on a daily basis. 
Relevant experience might include conference or event planning, design research and presentation in a team environment, community management and campaign development, etc. There is a range of diverse experiences that can contribute to success in this unique position. 
The Community Engagement Contractor will: 
  • Implement high-quality educational and community-building experiences for the Boston design community. Serve as the on-site team lead, including coordinating with staff and volunteers. 
  • Be the face of Design Museum Everywhere’s Boston-hybrid programming in 2023:
  • Execute community partnerships and other tools to attract, grow, and retain event audiences.
  • Engage the Design Museum Everywhere community in Greater Boston.
  • Public speaking at events.
  • Build participation and partners.
  • Understand our Boston community and how they engage with the museum. 
  • Identify new design and social change topics and themes the community is interested in learning more about.
  • Work with the Director of Education and Community Engagement to manage a full-day Workplace Innovation Summit in the spring. 
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of Boston-region in-person and hybrid Design Museum programs, and events, including but not limited to Design Museum Mornings, community meetups, and special events. 
  • Identify and engage local partners and stakeholders in community assessment, program design, implementation and evaluation of programs. 
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and event speakers to create a full 2023 calendar of hybrid programming from January-August 2023. 
  • Work with the Director of Education and Community Engagement and the Marketing and Communications Associate to promote programs and follow up with attendees.
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with the museum’s community: staff, board members, advisory council members, volunteers, interns, and other contributors.

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience, with program management experience.
  • Experience in event strategy and production. 
  • Demonstrated people and project management skills with the ability to independently manage complex, multifaceted projects and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills—this position will be community organizing and building and maintaining Design Museum relationships.
  • A creative problem solver with a passion for design and education.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to speak publicly at events. 
  • Technical skills required: Eventbrite, Apple Keynote and Microsoft Powerpoint, Google Docs, Slack, Asana, Notion. 
Position Details: 
  • 35 hours/week for an eight month-contract starting in January 2023; total contract is $39,600. This is a grant-funded position. 
  • The schedule is generally Monday-Friday 9-5 with occasional morning or evening programs. 
  • Remote-first position, but must be available to staff regular events in Boston.
