The Finance department at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking Budget Analyst to provide key budget and operational support to the Budget Office of Finance. Secondarily, the position provides similar support to the other divisions of Finance on a project-oriented basis.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Collaborating with departments and divisions to develop a budget.
  • Evaluating budget proposals and funding requests.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses of budget requests and/or adjustments to determine value.
  • Determining whether budget proposals are in compliance with annual budget guidelines.
  • Monthly monitoring spending to ensure departments remain within budget.
  • Develop and report on grant budgeting and spending.
  • Provide operational and functional support and troubleshooting of complex allocations and assumptions within the Laboratory’s budget details which may go across multiple departments.
  • Develop business relationships and integrate activities with department colleagues to ensure successful implementation and support of budget spending and creation and other specific projects.
  • Develop reporting tools to facilitate analysis and processes of ongoing budgeting and business concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business or Public Administration or similar related field.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years’ experience in public administration, business administration, finance or accounting.
SKILLS: Superior problem-solving/analytical skills; outstanding organizational skills; detail-oriented. Experience writing reports and using Lawson Report Writer (RW). Proficient writing reports using Dashboard Gear and/or Crystal Reports. Advanced proficiency with minimum of two years of experience in MS Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook. Ability to organize and work in cross-functional teams. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Positive attitude and professional manner in all interactions. Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
