Engineering Technician

You will serve as Engineering Technician within a multi-disciplinary architectural and engineering team. Projects include planning, programming, design, and construction management of new construction of Coast Guard (CG) facilities or repair, maintenance, modification or renovation of existing facilities which includes buildings, airfields, hangars, wharfs and docks, aids-to-navigation structures, communication facilities, single and multi-family housing, industrial buildings and associated utilities.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Creating and editing electronic facility drawings and updating official plot plans to maintain high-quality, accurate CAD files of shore infrastructure assets.
  • Overseeing and enforcing drawing management policy among staff while converting older paper documents into electronic format as required by scanning-to-file with the onboard equipment and software.
  • Performing other drawing, scanning, copying and printing duties using a variety of office peripherals.
  • Supporting the Regional Execution branch by creating and maintaining records in the SAM/Maximo database to reflect accurate project information.
  • Maintaining the security and integrity of system programs, data files, and equipment by the use of passwords, essential periodic backups for system files, routine maintenance, safe storage for back up media and implementing physical security measures for equipment.
  • Participates on a multi-disciplinary team performing Facility Assessment Condition inspections at CG facilities.
  • Training staff on proper use of all workstations and peripheral computer equipment, and providing technical guidance on CG’s database management systems and other software applications used by CEU Oakland.
  • Establishing processes to request CAD services; reviewing/approving contractor invoices; managing workload and monitoring and evaluating performance of duties of on-site contractors to ensure contractual compliance. Preparing scope of work for CAD services contracts. Serving as Contracting Officers Representative for CAD service contracts.
