Job Purpose
Collaborates with Director and other Counseling Center leadership in the overall direction and management of the Counseling Center. A key duty of this role is to bring administrative leadership in clinical services by assisting the Counseling Center Director in coordinating, managing, and further developing Counseling Center Clinical Services, including reviewing and updating policies and procedures as needed to remain aligned with best practices in the field, and improving clinical effectiveness and efficiency. The Clinical Director will also function as a primary consultant on cases for staff, trainees, and other members of the campus community when guidance is needed. As a member of the leadership team, the Clinical Director will provide administrative supervision to the clinical staff and may also provide formal and/or ancillary supervision for unlicensed clinical staff and trainee staff as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s or doctoral degree in a mental-health field, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant post-degree experience working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary staff in a mental health center, with strong clinical skills and experience managing complex mental health concerns and mental health crises, and experience providing empirically validated treatment. Candidates should be able to demonstrate increasing levels of administrative responsibility and must be appropriately certified or licensed (ex. Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker), or immediately license-eligible to practice independently by the state of South Carolina mental health professional organization regulating professional practice for their specialty. This will usually be the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Familiarity with case note writing/legal documentation requirements for mental health clients, and with applicable laws that pertain to counseling center work, such as HIPPA, FERPA, and ADA laws. Experience working in a college counseling center, experience with online counseling technology, experience providing supervision for trainee counselors, and experience planning and delivering outreach programs and consultation services on a college campus are preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position requires skill/knowledge in the following areas: 1) Psychological services for a wide variety of presenting concerns in a young-adult population, including but not limited to assessment, triage, crisis-intervention, case-management, individual and group therapy, and clinical consultation for students, families, and the campus community. 2) Counseling Center management and leadership including administrative and clinical supervision 3) Public education/outreach in the area of counseling and development, with excellent written and oral skills.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Some occasional evening and weekend duties related to after hours crisis consultation are required. Employee is expected to participate in professional development/continuing education sufficient to maintain licenses, actively participate in professional organizations and conduct professional activities (i.e., research, presentations and publication).
This is a permanent state position that is scheduled to work 12 months a year.
