Work Scholar Digital Design

Department Overview:
This position will operate at the intersection of the Digital Strategy and Design Departments, providing support for the visual and digital experience of Aperture. Primary areas of focus will include brand and marketing design, website user experience design, short-form video concepting and production, and social media asset concepting and creation.

The Digital Design Work Scholar will:

Partner with Aperture’s digital editor and designer to create:
o Social media assets in support of Aperture programs and promotions, including static and animated assets for Instagram
o Email newsletter templates and assets in support of Aperture programs and promotions
o Short-form video projects in support of Aperture programs and initiatives 

Support Aperture’s Designer in concepting and executing designs for unique Aperture sub brands and initiatives 

Partner with the Director of Digital Strategy to:
o Research, concept, and execution of website design solutions in support of Aperture’s website enhancements roadmap
o Create digital display advertisements that promote Aperture products, initiatives, or Aperture magazine

o Design software skills, such as InDesign tricks and tips for print design or HTML/CSS for digital design 

General Work Scholar Responsibilities:
Further develop knowledge of photography as well as Aperture’s mission, publications, exhibitions, and programs
o Participate in workshops and training sessions
o Complete pre-, mid-, and post-term evaluations
o Assist with mailings o Setup and breakdown for on- and off-site events
o Assist at the Aperture Foundation Benefit and Spring Party
o Participate in jurying the Aperture Portfolio Prize (Spring term)
o Work occasional events and extended hours (paid hours)
o Kitchen duty (fridge and dishes)

Requirements:
Expertise with InDesign and working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required (all on Mac). Knowledge of HTML and CSS, and Adobe After Effects is encouraged but not required. Strong layout and typography skills, creativity, attention to detail, and self motivation will enhance a candidate’s application. Video editing and animation experience are a plus. One should also possess a willingness to triple-check everything before it is routed or shared; patience with colleagues and the collaborative design process at Aperture; curiosity about different platforms, mediums, and content; a willingness to investigate solutions independently and try out different visual solutions to a problem; and the ability to work toward finding multiple creative ideas whenever a design is needed (there is never one right answer when it comes to design).
