Positions & Duties

The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Associate Engineer classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Per the City’s COVID19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the City requires all employees starting on or after February 11, 2022, to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment absent a documented medical and/or religious exemption.
 
The Environmental Services Department is currently seeking to hire two (2) Associate Engineer position(s) in the 1) Municipal Water System division located at 3025 Tuers Road, San Jose and 2) Capital Improvement Project (CIP) division located at 700 Los Esteros Road, San Jose.
 
About the Water Resources Division:
The Water Resources Division is comprised of three sections: Municipal Water System, South Bay Water Recycling, and Operations and Maintenance.
 
About the Capital Improvement Program Division:
Join the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) division in leading one of the largest public works programs in San José’s history! Check out CIP’s website for more information on the $1.4 billion infrastructure construction program currently in its first 10-year phase. While all this planning and construction is ongoing, the facility is in continuous operation, serving 1.4 million residents and over 17,000 businesses in eight cities.
 
Municipal Water System Position
The Municipal Water System section is responsible for system operation and maintenance engineering support, and design and construction of the Municipal Water System pipeline and facilities. This includes managing the water quality programs, and supporting the conservation program, providing development related support services, ensuring availability of water supply, capital improvements, construction inspection, and engineering support to operations and maintenance. 
 
Capital Improvement Program Position
The Program Management section has a wide variety of responsibilities, including budgeting, contract management, reporting, program/project controls, scheduling, and resourcing, to support the 20+ active capital projects at the RWF.
 
 
Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline or possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience.
Acceptable Substitution: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in the required professional engineering discipline may be substituted for one (1) year of professional engineering experience.
Required Licensing: Possession of a valid driver’s license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in California.
Desirable Licensing or Certifications:
  • Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer (PE) issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists
  • State of California Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution (D) and/or Water Treatment (T) certification(s)
