Human Resources Generalist

This position is responsible for providing support and/or the delivery of human resource services for the Board of Education. Incumbent will be specifically responsible for making available information to employees who are in need of Family Medical Leave Act assistance, as well as management of the New Haven Public School’s substitute hire process. Incumbent will also address a variety of issues and/or provide general support, maintain records, files and databases of personnel actions, and assist in ensuring that personnel functions conform to all applicable regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in a closely related field; and/or three to five years’ experience in increasingly responsible personnel work.
Competency in:
  • Planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports;
  • Operating standard office equipment;
  • Planning and managing projects;
  • Utilizing pertinent software applications;
  • (AESOP) Automated Substitute Placement and Absence Management System;
  • Relevant codes,
  • FMLA regulations & laws.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws relevant to public personnel administration.
  • Knowledge of employment practices related to equal employment opportunity or affirmative action plans or programs.
  • Considerable skill in oral and written communication.
  • Considerable interpersonal and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to research industry trends, benchmarks and best practices.
  • Ability to follow collective bargaining unit contracts.
