Communications Associate

Regional Plan Association (RPA) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Communications Associate to join our team. The Communications Associate will help promote RPA’s research and advocacy and strengthen RPA’s brand identity through strategic communications. The Communications Associate will be responsible for managing RPA’s digital presence and using several communications tools to educate and inspire the general public and influential decision-makers about RPA’s research, planning and advocacy. The Communications Associate will collaborate with each department, participate in report production, facilitate internal communications, and support sound project management. 

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate across departments to publicize RPA’s research and advocacy work to multiple audiences, including the press, public officials, and the general public
  • Manage social media channels and social media content calendar on various social media platforms
  • Manage day-to-day maintenance of RPA website and affiliated websites, upload content through content management systems (Craft, Squarespace) 
  • Produce email marketing content including newsletters and event invitations 
  • Copy edit reports, press releases, fact sheets, blogs, and other written communications
  • Track, report, and leverage metrics on earned media, digital communications 
  • Assist with media planning and relations
  • Assist with event production and advocacy campaigns as needed
  • Monitor news and trends in urbanism and RPA’s core research areas: transportation, housing and community development, and climate change and environment
  • Facilitate effective internal communication between departments 

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. Candidates should have 2+ years experience in external communications ideally in infrastructure, transportation, housing, climate, or a related field. 

Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills, as well as experience working in small teams, are essential. Candidates should be able to take initiative, balance multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously, and understand the value of effective project management. 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and popular social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) is essential. Familiarity with Constant Contact, Craft CMS, Squarespace, and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $48,000-$55,000. RPA offers a generous package of benefits including health care, dental, transit and biking benefits, life insurance, and a retirement plan.
