Senior Informatics Analysts

Brief Position Overview:
Under the matrixed supervision of the Data Analytics Manager, and the Associate Director of the Office of Planning and Innovation (OPI), the Sr. Informatics Analyst will provide full-service data science, analysis, visualization, and support. The Sr. Informatics Analyst will utilize principles of data science and storytelling to mentor a team of analysts in creating reports, building dashboards, and providing analyses that drive organizational decision-making. The Sr. Informatics Analyst will regularly provide support in the development of analytical plans that incorporate appropriate epidemiological and statistical methods to describe and solve common business problems.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical and organizational expertise in the full life cycle of data analytics to include requirements gathering, analysis design, data collection and cleaning, performing analysis, and reporting findings.
  • Develops advanced reports and dashboards for HCPH offices/divisions and other agency stakeholders.
  • Communicates data findings in a clear and concise manner to drive smart operational decisions.
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, and effectively communicates strategic data-driven recommendations.
  • Collaborate across internal divisions and offices to manage, organize, report, and integrate key public health data that will be used to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Maintains a library of analytical code (SQL, R, Python, etc.) and data visualization dashboards (PowerBI, etc.).
  • Develops well-crafted reports, data analysis, and presentations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

Requirements
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Computer Science, Data Analytics/Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field.
Experience:
  • Four (4) years of experience using analytical scripting languages like R, and Python to perform
  • Four (4) years of experience using data collection and management tools like SQL, SSIS, SSMS
  • Four (4) years of experience using data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau
  • Four (4) years of experience producing data products, and translating technical information into easy-to-understand formats (e.g., dashboards, reports, and other visualization tools/techniques)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Moderate understanding of the principles of public health practice.
  • Hands-on approach to planning and developing analyses that meet the needs of the business users
  • Ability to conduct research, identify and understand data, and translate data into information for decision-making and recommendations.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in both oral, visual, and written formats, with the ability to be efficient and consistently deliver high-quality work under time constraints.
  • Ability to visualize data and understand the principles of data storytelling.
  • Ability to organize and work independently on time-sensitive projects.
  • Ability to solve a variety of complex problems in the absence of technical guidelines and when creative thinking is required.

General Information
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
  • Full-Time | Regular
  • Monday – Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • May require periodic overnight travel and long hours/overtime during emergencies/disasters.
  • May require occasional after-hours support and maintenance of technical systems.
Work Environment:
  • Work environment is typically in an office environment but may require infrequent travel and interaction with the community at public events.
Physical Demands:
  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
