HandsOn VISTA - Shelters to Shutters
Join Shelters to Shutters to help foster long term self-sufficiency and access to housing and employment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness! The successful applicant will help develop a volunteer management structure focusing on recruitment, onboarding and training of volunteers. These individuals will provide essential work-life mentorship and support to homeless and at risk populations in rebuilding a community of support and gaining other essential skills. Shelters to Shutters is a small team and the successful applicant should be independent, proactive, and have strong initiative. In this role you will gain an in depth knowledge of the challenges around homelessness and learn a lot about the operations of a small non-profit. A background in working with volunteers or strong experience volunteering yourself is preferred but not required.
This is a National Service position as a part of AmeriCorps VISTA program. Members who move over 50 miles qualify for a relocation allowance as well as a settling in allowance. All of our VISTA's receive a modest taxable living allowance of about $1,300/month (before taxes), federal loans qualify for forbearance. After the completion of one's year of service, they also qualify for an educational award valued at about $6,500, which can be used towards federal loans, or further education.
