Prevention Instructor IMATTER

Reports to: iMatter Network Project Coordinator
Wkly Hrs: Monday- Friday; 37.5 hours per week; with flexibility to respond to programmatic needs
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Starting Rate: $23.00
The YWCA of Western MA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering survivors. The YW provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Our programs and services include crisis shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families, counseling, SAFEPLAN court advocacy, community education, supervised visitation, and vocational training for youth. The YWCA provides services at several sites, including Holyoke, Northampton, Westfield, and our primary Springfield campus.
Summary
The HIV Prevention Instructor will lead HIV and intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention and education efforts throughout Hampden County with a focus on communities. Key activities include the adoption, adaptation, facilitation, and delivery of the HIV prevention and intervention curriculum.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with YW teams to integrate HIV prevention and intervention within existing policies, programs, and services toward the goal of addressing survivors’ whole identities, needs, and life circumstances;
  • Recruit, train, and retain young people representative of our Springfield and surrounding communities for participation on a 15-member project Youth Advisory Board (YAB);
  • Plan, design, and evaluate campus-based HIV and IPV learning projects;
  • Create and implement a Bystander Intervention social media / marketing campaign;
  • Identify effective practices and propose implementation strategies in support of the integration of HIV & IPV prevention and intervention within existing systems of service delivery;
  • Adopt, adapt, facilitate, and deliver the HIV & IPV prevention and intervention curriculum to clients of the YW’s emergency shelter and other residential programs as well as college campuses and other community stakeholders;
  • Recruit and retain clients for participation in learning communities;
  • Enhance HIV & IPV prevention and intervention knowledge and skills among YW staff;
  • In consultation with the Prevention Project Coordinator and Data Coordinator, collect, input, and report project and participant data;
  • Prepare project status reports and/or other documentation for grantors, internal teams, and community stakeholders in accordance with timelines and requirements;
  • Participate in regular supervision and project meetings with the HIV Project Coordinator and Director of Parent & Youth Services;
  • Attend required agency meetings and trainings; and
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education with 3 years of experience in a human services and/or public health;
  • Experience in collaborating with nonprofit organizations, public schools, and colleges;
  • Experience in working with survivors of teen dating violence, IPV, sexual assault, and/or trafficking;
  • Experience in working with people and in communities affected by HIV;
  • Understanding of both interpersonal and structural racism and bias;
  • Experience in public speaking and/or group facilitation;
  • English / Spanish language proficiency preferred;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required. Must be able to be covered by the agency's insurance policy.
