Summer Intern - Biopharmaceutical Formulations
Location: Gaithersburg, MD
We are currently seeking rising Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students working towards a degree in biology/biochemistry/biotechnology/pharmaceutical sciences or a similar field or a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023.
Objectives/Goals of the Position:
- The reversible self-association and high viscosity experienced by many antibodies in high concentration formulations leads to challenges in both manufacturing of antibody therapies and delivery to patients.
- The intern will assemble and test devices for identifying antibody regions involved in reversible self-association, guiding protein engineering efforts.
- The intern will learn techniques for handling and formulating protein therapeutics, measuring antibody stability, and preparing mass spectrometry samples for measurement of hydrogen-deuterium exchange kinetics.
- Stretch goal: create devices that can be used in an automated liquid-handling system.
Position Requirements:
- Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior students working towards a degree in biology/biochemistry/biotechnology/pharmaceutical sciences or similar field.
- Experience working with proteins and making buffers in a laboratory setting
- Experience making biophysical measurements on proteins, which could include size exclusion chromatography, rheometry, etc.
- Capacity for creative thinking and enthusiasm for building and piloting prototypes
