Intern - Hematology R&D

Location: Waltham, MA
We are currently seeking a Master/PhD students majoring in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a similar field for a 10-12 week internship during the summer of 2023.

Objectives/Goals of the Position:
  • Many public datasets exist that offer a broad view of the mutational and transcriptomic landscape of various hematological malignancies.
  • In addition, AstraZeneca regularly generates additional datasets from clinical trials and internal R&D efforts to understand the genomics of these cancers.
  • Unfortunately, these datasets are often in different formats and not directly comparable.
  • In this role, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about the available datasets that can provide insights into hematological cancers, learn how to combine data, perform meta analysis across cohorts, leverage this data to identify key molecular characteristics of hematological disease, and make this data resource available to the R&D team to address future questions.
  • Gather publicly available and AstraZeneca generated datasets across hematology indications.
  • Correct for batch effects and make the resource available for AstraZeneca scientists is common databases.
  • Use the data to identify common genomic alternations across disease types and subtypes.

Position Requirements:
  • Enthusiasm and persistence in the applications of analytical methods to complex biological problems.
  • Experience with R, Python, and working in a Unix environment.
  • Familiarity with RNA sequencing and techniques for assessing genome-wide chromatin accessibility.
  • Masters/PhD students majoring in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar field
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
