Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director, plans, conducts and supervises research requiring fundamental scientific knowledge and advanced knowledge normal tissue toxicity in response to radiation; ultra-high dose (FLASH), LINAC (or other x-ray generating sources, targeted radiation, characterization of radiation biomarkers, and the impact of radiation on biomarkers, biological systems, microenvironment, and/or immunology. In this position the candidate will utilize their available knowledge base and modern technology to research associated with animal model development, characterization, and efficacy studies for treatment approvals. In addition to research and contract work, the candidate will participate in administrative and committee work to support funding opportunities within the institute and management of the radiation facilities.

Qualifications

Requires a Ph.D., DVM, or DVM/Ph.D. degree in a directly related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related research experience. Must have demonstrated ability to handle fundamental scientific tasks. Requires demonstrated research experience in specific areas listed above as well as documented success in publishing and/or presenting original research.
 
Requires professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Excel, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. 
 
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team as well as the ability to maintain confidential information.
 
This position will involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which will require vaccinations/immunizations. Ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance is required. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
