Summer Internship - Teaching & Advising

THE STEPPINGSTONE SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Summer 2023 Position Description
The summer internship at Steppingstone provides talented and committed college students with an opportunity to learn about careers in education, educational access, and the nonprofit sector through firsthand experience working with children in an academically rigorous environment. This internship grants significant exposure to different facets of Steppingstone programs, including direct curricular, non-curricular, socio-emotional, and administrative support.

Participants work closely with other Steppingstone interns, staff, and faculty members on projects both in and outside of the classroom. Interns meet regularly with the Internship Coordinators and their Lead/mentor teacher or Advisor(s). Interns also attend and participate in weekly seminars on various relevant topics in education, including adolescent development, growth mindset, and classroom management best practices.

Eligible candidates should have completed at least one year of college by the start of the internship. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to racial and educational equity. Ideal candidates will have had prior experience working with children and/or in an educational setting. Please visit our website (www.steppingstone.org) for more information about our programs.

Important Information about Summer 2023 and Employment at Steppingstone
  • We are planning for an in-person program, and all interns must be able to work in person throughout the summer session.
  • Of course, we are aware that things could change, depending on what happens with Covid variants, but our intention is for the full community to be together in person.
  • All Steppingstone employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This means that 14 days must have passed since they have completed a full regimen of vaccines authorized for use in Massachusetts (2 doses of either Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech, or 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson) and have received a booster dose.
  • All interns will be required to provide proof of their vaccination status by April 29, 2023.
  • If an employee is not vaccinated for a medical or religious reason, they will be able to speak with Human Resources to discuss the possibility of a reasonable accommodation in compliance with EEOC (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).
  • Steppingstone may provide reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified employees and prospective employees with a disability (as defined by applicable law) or sincerely-held religious beliefs, provided that such accommodation would not result in an undue hardship on Steppingstone.
  • The Steppingstone Foundation does not retaliate or otherwise discriminate against applicants or employees who request a reasonable accommodation for reasons related to disability or religion.
  • In addition to requiring vaccinations, we will implement multiple strategies to keep the community safe, which may include but not be limited to weekly Covid testing and mask-wearing. We will update all Interns in late spring about our exact safety plan, as it is still in development.
  • Please note that any of the above information may change based on pandemic developments or requirements mandated by the city, state, or federal government.
Starting salary is $16/hour and includes all orientations, summer hours, and bus duty.
