Local Program Associate - Haiti

The Local Program Associate is an entry-level position for program work at IRI and provides administrative and programmatic support to the Haiti portfolio.

Position Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations, journalism (or related field).  
  • 0-1 year of previous experience in international development or related field with preferred experience in democratic governance and international cooperation, preferably working directly with civil society organizations, government authorities, journalists, or equivalent.
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills in (Creole-French- English).  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Zoom.
  • Robust knowledge of the politics, economics, history, and culture of Haiti.
  • Ability to coordinate projects with components involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.  
  • Ability to travel within Haiti and internationally.

Preferred requirements:
  • Experience with international non-profit organizations.
  • Experience in communications and/or monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
  • Experience in event organization and logistics (in-person and/or virtually). 

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the implementation of IRI projects in Haiti, including regional projects.
  • General administrative assistance, including logistical coordination, agenda preparation and phone calls, and other administrative tasks: clerical support such as scanning, faxing, and copying, preparing and modifying documents including correspondence, reports, memos, and emails, and maintaining a physical and electronic filing system.  
  • Supports Resident Program Manager (RPM) and Local Program Officer (LPO) in the design and implementation of meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, and other events.  
  • Supports the RPM and LPO in the design and implementation of the communication activities of the IRI Haiti office. 
  • Assists with program monitoring and evaluation (M&E), including participating in regular M&E calls, data collection and entry, tracking compliance with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plans, and identifying where adjustments need to be made during project implementation.
  • Helps draft weekly written reports on key events and meetings, including IRI program activities, in Haiti.  
  • Develops and maintain relationships between IRI and partners.
  • Travels to other departments of Haiti to accompany and provide logistical support to partners, consultants, contractors, participants, and guests, among others as directed by the IRI.   
  • Provides written and oral reports on the political environment in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and contributes to external analysis and communication products. 
  • Performs written and oral translation in (Creole, French, and English) as needed. 
  • Maintains regular communication with the RPM, LPO, and program staff in Washington, D.C. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
