Summer Camp CIT Director
Westchester Parks Foundation is seeking a motivating professional to supervise Camp Morty’s Counselor-in-Training program composed of 16-17 year olds. Camp Morty is a free resident camp program for Westchester County children receiving services through the Department of Social Services.
The CIT Director will work from mid-June through mid-August and create and teach curriculum for teens 16-17 centered around personal, professional and social development.
The CIT Director’s primary responsibilities include providing direct supervision to 6-8 Counselors-in-Training. Direct supervision includes mentorship, providing performance reviews, and executing workshops that promote personal and professional development. The ideal candidate has experience in working with teens, underserved communities, and/or implementing trainings.
Responsibilities
- Oversee 10 to 12 Counselors-In-Training (CITs), ages 16 to 17, who live at camp for their designated sessions, as well as counselors assigned to the CIT program.
- Supervise CITs in their daily activities as well as working with camp staff to develop and implement leadership curriculum, workshops and other learning experiences such as community service projects.
- Assume responsibility of the safety and well-being of CIT campers.
- Assist the Camp Director in setting up goals, programming, etc. for the CIT program.
- Explain and enforce the policies, traditions, and rules of camp.
- Maintain proper records on each CIT to help evaluate their goals and progress throughout the summer.
- Understand that campers come first and decisions should be made in the best interest of the campers.
- Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 20 years of age by the start of camp.
- At least three years of college or equivalent is preferred. College graduates are strongly preferred.
- Should have some camp experience. Some administrative and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must have prior experience working with teenagers and be able to provide leadership.
- Interested in working and living outdoors for the summer.
- Emotionally mature with a willingness to work as a team player.
- Flexible and willing to accept challenges and step outside their comfort zone.
- Driver’s license preferred.
- Available for the entire duration of the summer program.
This is a sleepaway camp, and the position requires on-site boarding for the duration of the summer
