Emergency Management Spring Internship

Overview:

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is recruiting for our Spring 2023 Internship Program. Philadelphia OEM has run this program for more than a decade with a focus on providing a hands-on learning opportunity for the development of future Emergency Managers. We accomplish this by providing participants with the real-life experience of working and managing projects, developing plans, and responding to incidents under the mentorship of OEM staff.

Current Internship Projects:

Details:

OEM's internship program is UNPAID. We comply with Department of Labor standards for unpaid internships by providing participants with educational opportunities through experiential learning. We do not guarantee employment at the end of the opportunity. This is purely an educational opportunity for participants.

Because this is an unpaid internship, we are highly flexible with schedule and hours. Mentor's set the minimum hours per week based on a project needs, but typically we ask interns to engage in activities approximately 8-12 hours per week. Completion of hours may take place both on-site and remotely based on the mentors and operational needs.

In addition to their projects all participants will be given the opportunity to participate in both planned and unplanned events. All participants will be invited to participate in any office wide trainings, exercises, and special event deployments such as the Broad Street Run. Participants will also be given the opportunity to participate in emergency response depending on availability.

Timeline:

  • Application: Now – 1/31
  • Decisions: 2/14
  • Onboarding: 2/28
  • Program End: 4/28

Apply:

Individuals interested in an internship position must submit their application via OEM’s website: https://veoci.com/v/p/form/24s93b4k6wav

All applications will be reviewed by OEM staff. If we feel that you are a good fit for the program, we will follow up for a phone screening and, if appropriate, schedule an online interview with one or more Mentor from the program (OEM uses MS Teams, but we will work with applicants to find a setup that meets everyone's needs). Applicants may apply for multiple projects. Individuals selected for the program will be matched with OEM staff with decisions being sent mid-February!
