Business Development Internship

MSH is a nonprofit international health organization with 1,700 people working in over 47 countries. Our mission: saving lives and improving the health of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health. Together with our partners, we are helping managers and leaders to create stronger management systems that improve health services for the greatest health impact.

MSH’s Strategy, Business Development, and Partnerships team serves as a steward of the organization’s global strategy plan and supports implementation of the technical vision across our varied donors. We lead development of donor and partner engagement strategies and plans and lead business development processes across the lifecycle to deliver high-quality, compliant, and competitive proposals to donors. This internship will support research and analysis of donors, partners, competitors, and country context and landscape across MSH’s diverse technical areas in support of the new strategic plan (2023-2028) and contribute to business development, working across SBDP and technical and program teams, and other units such as communications and human resources. The intern will serve as an integral part of the SBDP team and will participate in various internal and external meetings related to business development, with opportunity to see firsthand the design of health programs for successful implementation.

Hours: 12-15 hours per week
Dates: June - August 2023
Location: Remote US

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct desk research (e.g., complete literature reviews and collect strategic information on potential partners, competitors, donors, and health profiles in select countries).
  • Contribute to capabilities statements by writing about MSH’s past performance.
  • Assist with write-up or presentations of findings based on desk research and relevant industry meetings to effectively communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Contribute data gathering and/or written inputs for proposal-related documents.
  • Participate in relevant internal SBDP team meetings, MSH learning events, or other virtual and/or in-person industry events or meetings with external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student majoring in public health, public policy, international relations, international development, or related subjects.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to initiate and organize work, establish priorities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills; demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, clients, and consultants.
  • Commitment of working at least two days per week.
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills, including synthesis of multiple data sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of another language helpful, but not required.
  • Commitment to and alignment with MSH’s mission and values.

Through this internship, the student will demonstrate learning and gain skills in the following areas: hands-on exposure to global health program development and industry standards for the business development process; research, analysis, and communication of both written and oral presentations/reports for various audiences; experience working in matrixed teams across the organization; and participation in internal professional development opportunities, educational events, and trainings.

  • Internship candidates must be full-time or part-time students earning academic credit for their internship.
