Qualitative Data Analyst - Maternal Mortality Prevention

The CDC Foundation seeks a Qualitative Data Analyst to support epidemiologic and surveillance activities related to maternal mortality prevention through the CDC’s Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) initiative.
The qualitative data analyst will contribute to increased understanding of the multi-factorial contributors to pregnancy-related deaths at the national and jurisdiction-levels, and increased understanding of opportunities for prevention of future deaths. They will lead team-based qualitative analyses with CDC staff and external partners, utilizing data from the Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA) and the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System.

The successful candidate will be hired by the CDC Foundation and will be organizationally located with the Maternal Mortality Prevention Team in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Reproductive Health, Maternal and Infant Health Branch, Maternal Mortality Prevention Team.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology, social sciences, public health, or closely related disciplines is required.
  • At least two years of related professional experience required
  • Proficiency in managing and analyzing data with statistical programs such as SAS ,R, or STATA
  • Documented professional experience managing and analyzing qualitative data with programs such as MAXQDA or NVivo (beyond academic coursework)
  • Highly detail-oriented, works well within a diverse team as well as independently, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities, can communicate effectively, positively, and professionally, and can prioritize activities when under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as detailed reports, manuscripts, and abstracts for internal and external stakeholders/partners
  • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in social epidemiology and/or experience applying social epidemiology principles
  • Experience developing and/or providing qualitative training
  • Experience working with state public health agencies and data
  • Experience working with maternal health data

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop protocols and analytical plans
  • Lead or co-lead analyses for reports, manuscripts, and abstracts
  • Assist with preparing reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters and/or presentations, and the submission of these products to CDC clearance
  • Contribute to thought leadership to emerging national approaches to understand contributors to disparate health outcomes among populations
  • Lead project-related meetings and calls
  • Ensure strong adherence to project timelines
