Unit Leader (Summer Position)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Unit Leader supervises a unit of staff and campers. Work with other members of the unit staff to plan, teach, coordinate, and carry out activities. They will assist with integrating the principles of the Girl Scout program into camp activities and cabin life. Unit Leaders must commit to lead by example and live by the Girl Scout Law.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred to be 21 years of age.
  • Prior camp experience preferred or working with youth.
  • Willing to live in a cabin with campers.
  • Flexible and committed to personal and professional development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Good judgement in anticipating and preventing accidents.
  • Be able to act calmly, quickly, and give and/or follow directions during an emergency.
  • Knowledge of safety practices as applicable.
  • Must be ready and able to communicate well with girls and staff and be flexible about programming options.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
  • Hold the minimum certification requirements of CPR and First Aid.
  • EQUIPMENT USED: Program supplies, specialty activity supplies, cleaning supplies, walkie-talkies.
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/DEMANDS: Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time. Respond quickly to potential emergencies. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • WORK CONDITIONS: Activities occur both in an indoor and outdoor environment.
