Job Purpose
The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communication directs marketing and communications to engage and inform the College’s nearly 100,000 alumni, as well as parents, friends, and students as appropriate. Promotes programs, events , fundraising campaigns, benefits, and merchandise via direct mail, the website, email, social media, e-newsletters, advertising, and other marketing/communications methods. Determines appropriate format, audience, and content to ensure effective and engaging communications . Manages the Alumni Association’s website and social media accounts, producing and posting relevant messaging an average of five times each week and increasing engagement and audience size.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related experience in corporate, institutional,
or non-profit marketing, communications, fundraising/development, customer relations, or business development is required. Proficiency and experience with marketing and communications principles is required. Experience with higher education/non-profit development strongly preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency, accuracy, clarity, and speed in written communications is required. Strong grammatical skills are also required. Experience with corporate, institutional, or non-profit customer/constituent communications (print and electronic) and social media required. Attention to detail and superior organizational skills necessary. Must possess strong skills with word processing, data spreadsheet, and graphic presentation applications such as Microsoft Suite, Canva, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) databases and website management preferred.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Must be willing to work some nights and weekends to support Alumni Association initiatives as requested. Some travel required.

Plans, produces, and posts messaging and images on the Alumni Association’s social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter) an average of five times each week to promote accomplishments of individual alumni, as well as programs, events, fundraising campaigns, benefits, merchandise, and general College news. Coordinates with colleagues to highlight accomplished alumni. Monitors and analyzes engagement on social media channels. Collaborates with other College social media managers as needed. Continuously employs methods to increase social media followers on all four channels to meet annual goals.

Promotes sales of merchandise to alumni, students, parents, and friends, including the CofC Ring, Alumni Gift Shop items, insurance programs, and other Alumni Association affinity programs. Incorporates donations with purchase as appropriate and allowed by law. Coordinates with Alumni Business Operations Manager to plan and promote CofC Ring Days, gift shop inventory, staffing, discount codes, and donation recording. Leads planning, promotion, and production of the annual CofC Ring Tradition and Ceremony each spring to engage students, alumni, and parents/families.

Develops and executes an annual marketing and communications calendar based on IA Division goals and shares it with department and division colleagues. Determines appropriate format(s) (direct mail, email, social media, e-newsletters, advertising, and other marketing/communications methods), content, and timing to promote programs, events, fundraising campaigns, benefits, and merchandise to alumni, as well as parents, students, and friends as appropriate. Responsible for the overall content, design, and updates to the Alumni Association website. Plans, produces, and distributes the monthly alumni e-newsletter. Manages production and coordinates distribution of other institutional e-newsletters and emails to alumni. Ensures accuracy, compliance with College branding, and coordination with appropriate divisional and institutional colleagues. Monitors, analyzes, records, and shares metrics regarding deliveries, open rates, click rates, and other data to improve effectiveness.
