Postdoctoral Associate, Lab of Dr. Yongchao Ma

This is a research position for a person with PhD degree and broad experience in molecular biology and/or neuroscience. The postdoctoral associate will be involved in daily research and operations in the laboratory of Dr. Yongchao Ma. The postdoctoral associate will contribute to project design, research protocol development, data analysis, and authorship of resultant manuscripts. The postdoctoral associate will also contribute to mentoring other trainees in the lab. This position requires the ability to work independently and, if needed, to collaborate with other researchers and core laboratories.

This position offers the opportunity to investigate the molecular and epigenetic (RNA methylation) mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and stem cell development, as well as related small molecule drug screening, which will lead to publications in high quality journals in the near future. Previous lab experience in molecular biology (DNA, RNA, PCR, cell culture and Western) is required. Mouse work experience is strongly preferred. The Ma lab has an outstanding track record of helping its trainees achieve their career goals.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Undertake an independent research project on the Genetic, Mitochondrial and RNA Regulation of Neural Development and Neurodegeneration (www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/faculty-profiles/az/profile.html?xid=17879
  • Participate collaboratively in other research projects in the laboratory.
  • Help write grant proposals and papers related to research project.
  • Participate in annual meetings related to grant funding.
