Finance Manager-University of New Hampshire

Job Description:
Reporting to and collaborating with the Director will coordinate the interaction of program, facility, and financial planning activities across the breadth of UNH. This role will assist with strategic support for the institution and its operating units, including research into higher education best practices and innovative solutions that may be applicable at UNH. Additional duties include managing staff and providing high level customer service to our finance colleagues.

  • Lead a team of three analysts and collaborate with the CFO and Finance Directors, to provide high quality financial planning and reporting to stakeholders throughout the institution
  • Supervise three staff members, providing coaching, mentoring, performance review, and professional development
  • Partner with the Director of Central Finance (New Director) to drive the development and administration of institutional budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans
  • Spearhead the development and publication of management reporting and analysis that provides insightful and actionable information
  • Lead on ad hoc financial reporting requests
  • Assist the Director of Central Finance with the development and ongoing maintenance of UNH’s budgetary allocation model
  • Work with the Director of Central Finance and the System Office to create materials for Board meetings that effectively articulate UNH’s goals, objectives, and financial plans
  • Assist with year-end processes and procedures
  • Perform related duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Professional experience with financial management and strategic planning.
  • Experience working in higher education is essential
  • Demonstrated understanding of the higher education operating environment and strategic challenges
  • Ability to work in a team with other Finance Directors to support the planning / budgeting, and strategic support needs of operating units and the institution as a whole
  • Ability to conduct research and produce reports that inform senior administrators about opportunities that could have strategic relevance for UNH
  • Understanding of and proficiency in navigating computerized financial systems
  • Experience working in higher education is essential
  • Ability to set concrete goals, develop aligned strategy, and make data-informed decisions
  • Excellent mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to interface with diverse audiences including senior administrators, employees/staff, faculty, students, and the public
  • Ability to build consensus, set direction, and lead through change
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with System and institutional leaders, as well as colleagues in other departments
  • Ability to perceive and balance multiple interests and perspectives
  • Openness to 360-degree feedback and desire to learn and grow continuously
