Family Engagement Facilitator

What Success Looks Like In This Job
Participate in the provision and implementation of all Promoting Safe and Stable Families Grant Program services and activities, which includes, but is not limited to, Facilitating Family Engagement Meetings, Supporting Family Engagement, Prevention, Kinship Support and Navigation services. 
Note: This is a time-limited, project-designated position for up to 39 hours per week. Funding for this position is subject to the availability of grant funds. The hours of the position would be from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 4pm on Friday for up to 39 hours per week (with some flexibility). 
Examples of Duties for Success
Overall:
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office Products such as Word, Power Point, Excel & Publisher to prepare reports and other products along with knowledge, ability to learn and actively utilize other computer programs and databases which include but are not limited to Trails, Records Management (MANGO), Lexis Nexis, PSSF Database, etc.
  • Use of programs for research and data entry is actively required.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, kinship families, foster parents, staff, professionals, etc.
  • Assist as needed and requested by Supervisor with PSSF programs and services.
 
Family Engagment Meetings: 
  1. Coordination duties for Family Engagement Meetings will include:
  • Coordinating meeting times when needed
  • Ensuring adequate space availability for meeting
  • Contacting parties to be invited and soliciting additional family and/or community attendance
  • Arranging for drinks/snacks, teleconferencing and room set up

  2. Other skills required as a Facilitator:
Prevention: 
Work in conjunction with internal teams to identify and reach out to families at high-risk of becoming involved in the child welfare system.
Facilitate family meetings in community settings to help the family come up with a plan to identify, intervene and resolve the at-risk issues.
Kinship:
  • Help assess community kin to see if future services are needed and a prevention services and support is needed. Help kin navigate systems to keep their family safe, healthy, and stable. Link families to needed resources. 
  • Work in partnership with the Kinship program to provide Kinship navigation services. 
  • Coordinating, facilitating and/or participating in Family Engagement Meetings. 
Qualifications for Success
  • Operate computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Access, Outlook, Adobe, Trails, Records Management, Provider Tracking System, Internet and PSSF Database.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of State regulations as they pertain to child welfare and child protection as well as the Colorado Children's Code, State Department of Social Services Manual-Volume VII, Agency Policies and Procedures and Agency/County/State letters, County Policy, etc.
  • Completion of Colorado Child Welfare Child Welfare Training Academy preferred.
  • Experience within the child protection related field and some knowledge of the court and legal system, dynamics of child abuse and neglect, separation and loss issues, and family systems theory preferred.
  • Ability to work in potentially unsafe situations, effectively manage stress, utilize active listening skills, process/analyze/interpret large amounts of data and family history, problem solve, and de-escalate angry/upset clientele.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to organize and manage time effectively.
  • Always interact professionally and appropriately with agency staff and all outside organizations/programs/agencies.
  • Utilize your personal vehicle to get to many appointments in the local community and surrounding areas within Colorado.
  • Willingness to work extended hours prior to and or after typical work hours Monday through Friday to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 
More Qualifications for Success
  • Experience: 3-5 years of child welfare work experience within an agency working with children and families preferred. Prior facilitation of family engagement meetings is strongly desired.
  • Education and Training
  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the Human Behavioral Sciences or related fields as outlined in Volume VII
  • An educational waiver is available for those individuals who do not meet the education requirements to be a social caseworker and are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program from a higher education institute. A bachelor’s degree must be obtained within one (1) year from hire date with related coursework to job duties as outlined in 7.603.1. If a degree is not obtained within one (1) year from hire date, employment with the agency may be impacted including, and up to termination. Employee will be responsible for updating the hiring manager every six (6) months of their education progress.
  • License or Certificate: Social Caseworker Certification within one year from date of hire.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Work Schedule
  • The hours of the position would be from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 4pm on Friday for up to 39 hours per week (with some flexibility). 
  • This is a time-limited, project-designated position for up to 39 hours per week. Funding for this position is subject to the availability of grant funds.
  • Other: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
