Long Term Music Sub
Stone Ridge is seeking a long-term substitute teacher to cover general music classes (grades 1 - 4) from mid-February through mid-May.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Lower School General Music Teacher is responsible for teaching general music, in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. S/he will teach an Orff-Schulwerk-based General Music curriculum to students in Grades 1-4. Working closely with colleagues in the Performing Arts Department and throughout the Lower School, s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively collaborates with Learning Specialists, Educational Technologists, the Librarian, and the Lower School Counselor to develop strategies to support all students. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.
The Lower School General Music Teacher directs an after-school children’s choir for students in grades 3-4 in preparation for a spring sharing. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 3:00 - 4:00. Finally, the Lower School General Music Teacher leads the Liturgical Music for Lower School Masses and prayer services and offers support to the Campus and Music Ministry Teams for All-School Liturgies.
The desired candidate:
- has experience teaching general music at the Lower School level in Catholic, independent, Charter, and/or public schools.
- holds a BA in a related field and has completed Orff-Schulwerk Training Level 1.
- has piano proficiency and accompaniment skills.
- demonstrates familiarity with/has experience teaching in the model of Understanding by Design;
- possesses a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities.
- demonstrates a keen collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and creativity.
