Research Specialist

This vacancy listing is for separate positions in the 2 labs described below:

1. One position will support the GERAM lab directed by Dr. Tim Rhoads. The GERAM lab is a new research program in the department of nutritional sciences that is focused on understanding gene expression regulation of aging and metabolism (GERAM). The lab is looking for a Research Specialist who will help get lab operations off the ground, perform cell culture experiments, and support other laboratory operations. Shared support duties include routine laboratory maintenance, managing inventory and supplies, laboratory notebook upkeep, and possibly equipment oversight. Research duties may include cell culture, standard molecular biology procedures (quantitative PCR, western blot, 96-well plate assays), and data analysis. The successful candidate must have an aptitude for research and strong communication skills.

2. The second position is in the Meyer lab which is dedicated to studying the genomic mechanisms involved in a variety of transcriptional events during and leading to disease progression such as chronic kidney disease, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis. These disease models and studies employ a wide range of molecular biology expertise and techniques that center around animal cell culture and animal model work. To solve these problems, we use next generation sequencing and cutting-edge techniques that we rapidly adapt to the lab workflow. We are seeking a Research Specialist to help with lab organization, western blotting, real time PCR, RNA preparation, and the ability to follow commercial kit protocols. Good practices in aseptic tissue culture techniques are preferred. Position will include mouse animal colony management, mouse breeding, mouse husbandry (minimal), and the ability to assist in mouse tissue dissection and post-processing for data analysis (training included with position). The candidate will also participate in weekly data meetings, regulatory compliance, and literature reviews.
