ABOUT CHILDREN SERVICES OF ROXBURY: Founded in 1972 Children’s Services of Roxbury’s (CSR) mission is to provide high quality services to economically-disadvantaged children, youth, families, and individuals thereby promoting and strengthening family life and individual growth. CSR serves approximately 6,000 families across Massachusetts, serving families through four key services areas: Early Education and Care, Behavioral Health Services, Youth and Family Services and Housing and Stabilization. There are 22 programs operating under those four services areas. CSR operates across in 4 cities, has a staff of 400 employees, and an operating budget of $28M.
 
OVERVIEW: The lack of adequate, affordable housing further destabilizes economically-disadvantaged adults and families. CSR’s Housing and Stabilization Services staff is committed to addressing the needs of individuals and families struggling with homelessness, by providing permanent or temporary shelter along with food and clothing. Our safe, secure, and nurturing environments help families and individuals regain their self-esteem, develop life skills and financial independence, while remaining healthy and connected to their communities. 
 
SUMMARY: 
The Residential Supervisor’s role is to foster an atmosphere of support for families living in shelter. This position handles the management of support services, coordination of property needs, and oversight of Residential Counselors assigned to provide on-going supervision and care of 69 families in congregate shelter buildings in a manner that is aligned with the agency’s mission. 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Congregate & Co-Shelter program Residential Counselor staffing support and facilities services.
  • Work as a team to provide a supportive, engaging atmosphere and a structured living environment for shelter families
  • Model and encourage communication and solution-focused, non-punitive resolutions to problematic situations and behaviors.
  • Build strong, positive, and supportive relationships with all clients and staff.
  • Support the intake of new families to ensure families are welcomed, shown to assigned unit/room, provided with keys, unit/room supplies, shelter rules, receives introduction to neighborhood and basic assessment of potential immediate needs to ensure a smooth transition to shelter.
  • Help in the coordination and facilitation of house meetings, staff meetings, special projects and in-person and on-line trainings.
  • Maintain play spaces – inventory, etc. 
  • Create activities for children and families, inform families of community resources and community etc.
  • Provide crisis intervention and respond to building emergencies.
  • Provide individual and group supervision to assigned Residential Counselor staff. 
  • Co-Coordinates the staffing and management of shift coverage of FT and PT Residential Counselors to ensure 24-hour, 7-day week coverage and daily supervision congregate shelter buildings. 
  • Responsible for addressing matters concerning scheduling changes, shift coverage, callouts, no-shows and use of accrued sick time.
  • Ensure proper documentation and completion of the Daily Log, Communication Log, Visitor Log, Chore Chart, Fire Drill Log and other required logs, signs and forms in compliance with the state funders.
  • Responsible for managing inventory of supplies and forms as well as requesting for replenishment of supplies for all congregate buildings.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Participate in staff meetings and address administrative, shift and any behavioral issues of participants.
  • Attend and engage in supervision regarding position/personal goals, objectives, and current challenges.
  • Perform other duties as needed and as assigned. 
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 
  • Written and verbal fluency in the English language required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Full vaccination against Covid-19 required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Experience working in a residential setting required.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in human service or a related field required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Ability to speak/write in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred.
  • Experience working with formerly homeless or low-income families and knowledge of community resources preferred.
  • Must be able to climb 4 flights of stairs while carrying supplies.
  • On-call 24/7 and a willingness to respond to emergencies and emergency coverage as needed.
  • Must work on-site.
  • Must have flexible schedule and willingness to work evenings and weekends including holidays.
  • Must be willing to help with cleaning and maintaining upkeep of shelter buildings.
  • Working knowledge of DTA and DHCD procedures and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with drug abuse, domestic violence and trauma and its impact on children and families.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and prioritize tasks.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Team leader and player.
  • Ability to work from a team approach and provide the team with encouragement, constructive criticism, structure, and accountability.
  • Ability to be an advocate for staff and residents to ensure provision of needs.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues professionally.
  • Energetic yet able to remain calm in crisis and in handling multiple priorities autonomously.
