Senior Technology Analyst

Position Description:

The SDCC is looking for a Senior Technology Analyst to contribute to computing support at the SDCC within the Nuclear and Particle Physics Directorate (NPP).
Responsibilities include assisting with the operational duties in the SDCC data center operations and General Services teams, addressing user community requests for support, installing, and upgrading hardware/software at the facility, participating in the evaluation, adoption, and operation of new technologies, and contributing to the general operational readiness of the SDCC. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist and contribute to the general operational readiness of the facility, including customer interface and software updates/solutions
  • Participate in instrumenting monitoring tools at SDCC
  • Assist in the evaluation, adoption, and operation of new technologies in support of SDCC activities
Position Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, information systems or related discipline or equivalent related experience based on 2:1 (exp:edu)
  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time directly related experience
  • Working knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Working knowledge of high-performance disk storage systems
  • Working knowledge in the deployment and operations of secure, Internet-facing services
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment with time-sensitive deadlines
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of web content management systems (CMS) and Apache web servers
  • Familiarity with basic data center infrastructure services such as:
  • Basic IT services that interface facility with user-facing services
  • Configuration management and version control software
  • Authorization and Authentication Infrastructure (AAI)
  • Collaborative Tools
  • Working knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software
  • Prior experience with data center facility operations
Environmental,Health & Safety Requirements:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work occasionally (replacing server components, moving servers within the data center, connecting network cabling among servers, inventory and organizing replacement hardware parts)
