Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Resources

The Town of Carrboro, NC (pop. 21,230) is seeking a visionary, creative leader to be its next Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Resources. The Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Resources is appointed by the Town Manager. This position plans, manages, directs, coordinates, and supervises recreation and parks programs, facilities, services, and staff; handles personnel and public information matters; coordinates work with Town Manager and department directors; and serves as staff and technical resource support to the Recreation and Parks Commission, Town Manager, Town Council, and other committees as assigned. The Department has 13.5 full-time equivalent employees, 80 - 120 part-time temporary employees depending on the season, and an FY 2022 - 2023 budget of $1,980,683. The Director reports to the Town Manager and supervises all Department personnel.

The starting salary range for this position is $92,313 - $112,613 depending upon qualifications and experience. The Town also provides a generous benefits program including health insurance, annual, sick, holiday, personal and paid parental leave and includes a 3% contribution to a 401(k) and participation in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System.
The position requires a bachelor's degree with coursework in recreation and park administration, or a related field, as well as a minimum of five years of experience in the administration of recreation programs and in the development and planning of recreational facilities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
