Background
World Learning is a global not-for-profit organization with 90 years of experience in promoting international and intercultural understanding. Its four program units, Global Exchange, the SIT Graduate Institute, SIT Study Abroad, and the Experiment in International Living foster global citizenship through international experiential education and community-driven development programs. World Learning is committed to fostering a global capacity for peace, justice, and tolerance.
On behalf of the U.S. Department of State, World Learning administers scholarship programs for sponsored international undergraduate students. World Learning facilitates these students’ programs by handling some or all of the following: needs assessment; student recruitment and selection; placement at host colleges/universities; orientation; monitoring and evaluation; logistics; and follow-on.
Opportunities & Responsibilities
The Academic Exchange Team seeks one candidate for a fall internship to assist the World Learning Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) team in project implementation. The Program Intern may assist in performing research, arranging logistics and administrative aspects of programs, filing, data entry, assembling orientation packets, creating Program newsletters, and providing general Program support. Occasional non-traditional work hours should be expected. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates who wish to gain experience in the field of international education, exchange, and development.
The intern will be responsible for the following key tasks:
- Provide administrative support to Program team, including collecting/organizing the team’s mail
- Assist in the oversight of social network websites
- Help prepare the participants’ yearbook
- Assist in the coordination of academic program and participant evaluations
- Maintain participants’ files
- Data entry
- Assist with organizing and staffing the UGRAD Summit in Washington, DC
Qualifications
- Interest in international affairs/education/development
- Proven strong written and oral communication skills in English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficient Word and Excel computer skills
- Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills
- Experience living, studying, and/or working abroad desired
- Fosters diverse, equitable and inclusive practices and challenges practices which may be exclusionary.
- Effectively copes with change; able to shift comfortably; decides and acts without having the total picture; comfortably handles risk and uncertainty. Demonstrates the ability to function in unstructured work environments and/or uncertain conditions.
- A curiosity about World Learning as a whole, with the aim of being able to effectively represent the organization to external audiences commensurate with the position.
Please note that this is a one semester (subject to renewal) paid internship. Compensation is $20.10/hour. Work days and hours are negotiable; however, a commitment of 20 hours/week is required. Internship dates are February 13 to June 2, 2023.

Vaccination Policy
Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all employees in our U.S. offices except for those receiving medical or religious exemptions. If boosters are subsequently recommended by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then employees and faculty will be required to receive the booster within thirty (30) days of their eligibility to access the boosters.
