Data Science Intern

Experience during the program
In this 10-week internship that begins mid-May 2023, you will spend most of the program collaborating with fellow interns, Data & Analytics colleagues, and line of business representatives to work on a real business project. Projects are tailored to the duration of the internship so you can experience the full project cycle. This opportunity will be based out of offices in Columbus, OH, Westwood, MA, and/or Johnston, RI.
Participants can expect to:
  • Gather requirements to understand the business question
  • Propose analytical strategies to answer the business question
  • Work within our expansive data intelligence platforms to assemble, manage, and investigate relevant data
  • Gain feedback from partners and iteratively fine tune their approach to sufficiently resolve the question and maximize business impact
  • Present their findings to colleagues and business leaders as a capstone exercise

While projects vary each year, past projects have been centered on areas such as enhancing the customer experience, optimizing business spend, identifying new market opportunities, generating profiles to understand digital vs non-digital engagement preferences, and providing a range of business insights.

In addition to working with the internship project teams, interns will be paired with existing Data & Analytics Agile pods to learn how our organization leverages our data environment to support development of models, insights, and data intelligence that drive retention/growth programs and optimize a variety of bank functions, including lead generation, origination, servicing and account management, underwriting, risk, etc.

What you’ll need to apply
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00 required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Math, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field
  • Concurrently enrolled in a graduate studies program
  • Statistical programming experience with data/analytic software languages/tools (e.g., SQL, SAS, R, Python etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues from a range of backgrounds in business and analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required with an ability to successfully communicate analytic results, business insights, and resulting business implications to non-technical business partners
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and procedures, such as: generalized linear models, experimental design, stochastic processes, response surface methodology, and data visualization
