Development Scientist III, Production Sequencing Analysis (1538)

New England Biolabs is seeking a computational scientist to work collaboratively with production and other scientists at NEB and externally. Together we will build tools and workflows, analyze sequence results, and integrate data from instrumentation, to produce high-quality, rigorously tested, and provably excellent products. Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Identify, measure, and report on data features used to ensure consistent quality of every new lot of NEBNext products. 
  • Continuously improve analytic methods used to assess NEBNext product quality 
  • Construct, publish, and maintain customer-facing quality assessment workflows and tools 
  • Supervise and mentor other computational scientists. 
  • Provide technical support for customers and collaborators. 

Required Qualifications / Experience: 
  • Advanced degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, or molecular biology related field with significant data analysis experience. Computational training with significant biological experience is also acceptable. 
  • Expertise in diverse high-throughput sequencing analysis methods (RNA-seq, variant assessment, long reads, etc.) 
  • Passion for tools that support accessible and reproducible science (e.g., Galaxy, Bioconda, containers, etc.) 
  • Software development skills and appreciation for simple, high-quality, maintainable software 
  • Demonstrated scientific communication and presentation skills.
  • High integrity and strong work ethic, emphasizing both efficiency and quality of work. 
  • Eagerness to learn.
  • Modern web development skills (HTML5, Rails, Vue.js, etc.) 
  • Team Leadership  
  • Cluster computing  
  • Publication of original scientific work in relevant journals
