Film Festival Intern

Nantucket Film Festival Internship Program | February - May 2023

The Nantucket Film Festival (NFF) is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated interns interested in working for school credit, from mid-February to our in-person festival in June, primarily at NFF’s NYC (Brooklyn) office. This unpaid internship provides students and recent graduates with a unique opportunity to work alongside industry professionals to witness the planning of a film festival over four months. Additionally, there is the opportunity to be hired to work in June, which will require travel to Nantucket during the pre-festival and festival week (June 12-28).

Our interns will involve planning for the 28th Annual Nantucket Film Festival this coming June 21-26. The first half of the internship will provide a solid overview of the festival as a whole and will become more focused in the second half based on the individual’s skill sets and interests. We really want our interns to have their experience with us molded to their personal talents and passions over the course of the program.

Our internship program will provide hands-on experience in arts administration, film program curation/management, marketing, digital outreach, sponsorship, membership development, and festival/event operations/production. The day-to-day experience could include organizing film and screenplay submissions, contributing to the website and social media maintenance, sourcing on-island partners, assisting with the management of the sponsor assets, and various other research and special projects. The interns will also participate in screening and screenplay reading committees.

Applicants should be attentive to detail, possess a deep passion for film and film festivals, have strong organization and communication skills, and display a mature and positive work ethic. Office skills and familiarity with general office software, such as Word and Excel, are necessary. Knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop), Social Media, copyediting, video editing and database systems like AirTable are a big plus.

Interns will be expected to be in the office at least once a week (Tuesday or Thursday) at the Festival's Brooklyn office and work one day remotely. It is expected that interns must be available to work in June on Nantucket, with accommodations and travel provided by the festival. We do offer a meal/travel stipend throughout the internship. Though employment at the festival is not guaranteed at the start of the internship, preference will be given to candidates who can commit to the Festival’s June dates.

PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Assisting the Programming Team with incoming submissions, including tracking and organization, and participating in screening and screenplay reading committees for our Tony Cox Screenplay Competition.
  • Digital Outreach: contributing to the NFF website and social media management.
  • Copy editing and reviewing copy to match NFF’s voice to the festival audience.
  • Working with the team to complete Festival Catalog, including collecting festival deliverables and editing within Adobe Illustrator.
  • Managing sponsor assets and sourcing on-island partners, researching on-island sponsors that would like to work with the festival.

Application Instructions:
Interested applicants should email resume and cover letter no later than February 10th to: resumes@nantucketfilmfestival.org. Please write "NFF Internship" in the subject line. Resumes without a cover letter will not be considered. This is an unpaid internship, but provides an in-depth and hands-on learning experience. School credit and letters of recommendation are offered.
