Social Studies Teacher (3.0 FTE) - High School

Come work at Mount Horeb Area School District! We had two long-standing High School Social Studies Teachers, with a combined 38.5 years of service in our district, determined it was time for them to take their next journey into retirement.  We will miss them and wish them the best!

In this role, you could be teaching classes throughout the year such as  Modern US History, World History, Economics, Personal Finance, AP US History and more. What Your Day Will Look Like:
The majority of your day will involve designing, developing and delivering quality Social Studies lesson plans and curricula that adhere to the national and school district specific guidelines for our high school Social Studies program.  Engaging and innovative daily lesson plans and learning activities are key in maintaining a high-quality classroom that gives access to all students and abilities to maximize their learning and potential.  

You will also be responsible for accurately evaluating student performance and delivering helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers and incorporating appropriate technology and hands-on learning experiences into the classroom with enthusiasm. Using various forms of instruction helps students grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. The ideal candidate also believes in collaboration with other colleagues and promotes understanding and communication in a diverse learning and cultural environment.  This position will be onsite providing in-person instruction.

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Holds, or is eligible to obtain, a current and valid Wisconsin Teaching License in 701/1701 Broadfield Social Studies (grades 9-12) or 2700 Social Studies. Additional licenses are a plus.
  • Is passionate and an engaging educator.
  • Has an excellent background in current teaching and learning strategies, specifically with Social Studies curriculum and incorporates innovative strategies.
  • Demonstrates ability to build positive, nurturing relationships with all learners, and work with students in a positive and motivational manner.  
  • Has the ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Collaborates and has a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Has the ability to be flexible and adaptable, especially during times of change.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills, including the ability to guide and supervise groups of students and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates proficient office skills with computers and software.  
  • Able to interact with others effectively, follow directions and initiate activities independently.
  • Enjoy working with students and other staff members.
  • Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills and abilities are a plus.
