Data Science & Analytics Internships - Summer 2023, Virtual

To meet students where they are, we will host summer internships in both a virtual and in-person format. Opportunities listed will either be in-person (requiring an intern to work from an NBCU office location 3-5 days per week) based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs. 

In addition to all our internships being paid, we will also offer the following for our Summer 2023 interns:  
  • Paid company holidays for full-time interns. 
  • Robust networking, learning and development opportunities for all interns, whether in-person or virtual. 
  • Financial assistance to offset expenses for transportation and housing may be available on a needs-based basis for eligible in-person interns. More details about eligibility for this assistance will be provided at the time of offer. 

Job Description
Summer 2023 Internship Program:

  • Program Dates: June 5 – August 11, 2023  
  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.

Our Data Science and Analytics internships are designed to provide interns with real-world experience working on projects in a typical Data Science or Analytics environment, using state-of-the-art tools and technologies, while gaining broad exposure to the media industry. Interns will acquire specific responsibilities, goals, and timelines aligned with the teams they are embedded in. We have a world-class team of smart, hungry and fearless professionals who are working at the cutting edge of technology and science at the epicenter of content, technology and culture. 
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 
  
Peacock Content Eval & Advance Analytics: The Content Eval & Advance Analytics department assesses how content is doing on the platform and helps forecast/predict how content will do in the future to ultimately identify the best content for the customers. In this internship you will be able to help assist the Content Revenue Analytics team in their day-to-day tasks which can vary from exploration and creation of dashboards to evaluating trends of KPIs based on content, assisting in the evaluation of content for forecasting and assessing customer lifetime value, and monitoring content by demographics to find insights to support content evaluation. 
 
Product Analytics, Commerce: The Product Analytics team within Peacock’s Decision Sciences team uses data to interpret the voice of the customer at scale, to drive actionable insights and evaluate impact of ideas against company goals. This ranges from wrangling datasets to supporting product feature launches aimed at acquiring, monetizing, and retaining our users via exploratory and inferential analysis of user behavior. The team partners with stakeholders across the organization, primarily within Product, in order to implement strategic initiatives that drive subscription growth. Within this role, an intern will have access to projects that drive such growth and also interact with key stakeholders within Product and Decision Sciences. Interns can apply a wide range of analytical techniques, including SQL, Python, Statistical Modeling, and Data Visualization. The contribution to the Decision Sciences team and the customer experience will be tangible and realized. 
 
Peacock Data Science: We are building a world-class team of smart, hungry and fearless professionals who are energized by the possibility of working at the epicenter of content, technology and culture. Unlike a traditional internship, the Data Science Internship in Peacock embeds future data scientists in ongoing projects within the organization. They become active members of existing teams developing data science projects, acquiring specific responsibilities, goals and timelines which are interdependent with the goals and timelines of the teams they are embedded in. Upon the completion, future Data Scientists will have gained experience in real-world projects on a typical data science environment, using state of the art data science tools, and broad exposure to the media industry. 
 
Peacock, TVE Data Science & Analytics: The Data Science and Analytics intern will play a key role in supporting strategic initiatives for the organization. You will have the opportunity to utilize large-scale data to creatively solve real-life business problems and help drive product and programming strategy. As an intern, you’ll analyze product experiments & provide user behavioral insights, work closely with stakeholders to support reporting for all NBCU Entertainment networks, track the progress/ROI on business initiatives through quantitative analysis, and translate business needs into meaningful data projects. 
 
Product Experimentation: The Experimentation team within Decision Sciences oversees all experimentation efforts within Peacock. This ranges from planning, designing, executing, and analyzing experiments. The team partners with stakeholders across the organization, primarily within Product, in order to implement strategic initiatives that drive growth via A/B Testing. Within this role, an intern will have access to projects that drive such growth and also interact with key stakeholders within Product and Decision Sciences. Interns can apply a wide range of analytical techniques, including SQL, Python, Statistical Modeling, and Data Visualization. 
 
Qualifications
Basic Requirements: 
  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the length of the program. 
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal. 
  • Must be working from a location within the United States during all hours worked. 

Desired Characteristics: 
  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 
  • Experience working with Big Query or SQL 
  • Experience working with Big Data 
  • Experience with data visualization (Tableau, Amplitude, Looker, etc) 
  • Experience with providing insights from data 
  • Knowledge of statistics and its applications for inferential data analysis 
  • Hands on experience with statistical methods and machine learning 
  • Familiarity with deep learning modeling 
  • Experience working with Python 
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform 
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts. Especially hypothesis testing.

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00.
The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $35.00.
