Photojournalism Summer 2023 Intern

Your role in helping us shape the future:
The award-winning photography department at U.S. News & World Report is seeking a photojournalism student or recent graduate with a strong photography background for a summer internship. The fully remote position will focus on creative approaches to image selection and sequencing for News articles with potential assignments for original photography.
Are you up to the challenge?
1. Assist senior photo editors with research for daily news stories, special reports, photo galleries, and featured articles
2. Edit wire feeds from AP and Getty Images to art day-to-day news stories
3. Assist with production for online photo galleries
4. Pitch and execute original photography/photo essays and related reporting and research
5. Organize archival images using digital asset management systems

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
  • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university
  • Part-time or full-time photography students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university
  • A recent graduate from one of the above mentioned programs
A strong eye for news or documentary photography as demonstrated by portfolio, tear sheets, or past projects. Please include links to examples of online work with your resume and cover letter
Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, photo editing software like Photo Mechanic or Adobe Bridge, Google Docs and MAC based platforms
Working knowledge of color theory and digital imaging
Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace
Strong communication and organization skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate is a photojournalism major, or photography major with experience in documentary or news photography
  • Confident in pitching and executing original photo essays
  • A strong interest in political, domestic, and international news
  • The ability to work on deadline in a journalistic environment
Summer Intern Program Description:
  • 10 weeks; ideally, starting on Monday, June 5, 2023 through Friday, August 11, 2023.
  • We expect interns to work 37.5 hours/week, Monday- Friday
  • Internship pays $16.10 an hour.
